1. Purpose
Shift Happens is committed to a positive learning environment based on:
Respect • Integrity • Curiosity • Responsibility • Professionalism
2. Respect
Students must treat:
- fellow students;
- instructors;
- guest presenters;
- staff; and
- other participants
with dignity and respect.
3. Harassment and Bullying
Harassment, bullying, intimidation and discriminatory behaviour are not tolerated.
4. Sexual Harassment
Unwanted sexual comments, conduct, advances, touching or other inappropriate sexual behaviour are prohibited.
5. Consent and Physical Contact
Where practical work involves physical contact:
- consent must be obtained;
- boundaries must be respected;
- a person may say no; and
- contact must stop when requested.
6. Safety
Students must follow reasonable safety instructions and communicate when they feel unsafe, uncomfortable or unwell.
7. Confidentiality
Students must respect personal information shared by other participants.
Private stories, health information, photographs and conversations must not be shared without appropriate permission.
8. Online Conduct
The same standards apply to:
- Zoom;
- WhatsApp groups;
- online communities;
- student portals; and
- other Shift Happens learning environments.
9. Intellectual Property
Students may not:
- copy manuals;
- distribute course PDFs;
- record workshops;
- share Teachable access;
- upload course material;
- reproduce substantial teaching material; or
- use Shift Happens material to create their own courses without permission.
10. Academic Integrity
Students must complete assessments honestly.
Plagiarism, fabrication, unauthorised collaboration and prohibited assistance may constitute misconduct.
11. AI
Where an assessment prohibits AI assistance, students must comply with that requirement.
Students remain responsible for work submitted in their name.
12. Professional Conduct
Students should:
- represent their qualifications accurately;
- maintain appropriate boundaries;
- respect confidentiality;
- work within their training; and
- refer appropriately where required.
13. Commercial Solicitation
Student groups and workshops must not be used for intrusive advertising, commercial solicitation or unrelated recruitment.
14. Threats and Violence
Violence, threats and serious intimidation are prohibited.
15. Complaints
Students can raise concerns with:

16. Conduct Process
Where appropriate, Shift Happens may:
- receive the concern;
- assess it;
- gather information;
- speak with relevant people;
- allow the student to respond;
- determine appropriate action; and
- communicate the outcome where appropriate.
17. Possible Action
Depending on seriousness, action may include:
- guidance;
- warning;
- removal from an activity;
- restriction from a student group;
- suspension;
- removal from a workshop;
- suspension of online access; or
- termination of participation.
18. Fairness
Shift Happens aims to handle conduct matters fairly and proportionately.
Immediate temporary action may be taken where necessary to protect safety.
19. ASKSA
Where a student is also an ASKSA member, the student’s conduct may additionally be subject to ASKSA’s applicable professional standards and disciplinary processes.
This Code is a Shift Happens Student Code of Conduct and is not an ASKSA disciplinary code.
